To the Southern Coast

By road, as the crow flies it's only 40-50 miles to the Youth Hostel. But something's in the way
Even the low passes of Λευκα Ιρη are 3000 ft high and Παχνες is 8048 ft and cold. Much as I'd like to get in better shape, I'll compromise on the mountains with one of these

My new route will be to take an early afternoon bus to just outside of Chora Sfakion, and then walk the remaining 20 miles (including an overnight in Skaloti)

Walking to Plakias

The first village on my walk is Κομιταδες (pop ~75). I had to stop for some Sfakian pie (with feta cheese and thyme honey) and say hello to the Tavern's owner, Giorgos.
The next two villages on the road, Βρασκασ and Βουβασ, have friendly café's and at least one bakery, so I'll drop by briefly. I wonder if can borrow an orange at the monestary in Βουβασ?
If I follow the Pan European Footpath 4, then the villages of Nomikiana and Αγιοσ Νεκιαριοσ are next. Otherwise the road goes through Πατσιανοσ and Καψοδασοσ. Either way, the Καλλικρατηε Gorge through the mountains makes a nice backdrop
After 11 km of walking, I'll finally reached Σκαλωτυ for dinner and a night's rest at Zorbas Taverna.

After a 5 km walk the next morning, I'll have breakfast at the small kafenion in the village Αργουλεσ. The road continues 5 km downhill through olive groves and across a gorge on an ancient stone bridge leading into the twin villages of Ανο (Upper) and Κατο (Lower) Ροδακινο.
The last 10 km descends towards the water and follows the beach west towards Plakias Bay (upper left in the picture below)
But first, a stop for a Lemon Lamb lunch at Taverna Gallini along Souda Bay
